Valtera™ is a pre-emergent residual herbicide that offers up to 8 weeks of early season broadleaf weed control in pulses, soybeans and wheat.

  • Active ingredient:  Group 14 (flumioxazin)
  • Rainfast:  Rain is required for activation
  • Treatment rate:  One case treats 160 acres (at 56 g/ac. rate)
  • Application:  Tank mix with glyphosate and/or BlackHawk/GoldWing for enhanced control of emerged weeds
  • Application timing:  Fall apply as late as possible but prior to freeze up for any registered crop,   pre-plant or pre-emergent for soybeans, field peas and chickpeas,  should be applied a minimum of 7 days prior to seeding field corn and spring wheat,  apply up to 3 days after seeding soybeans and field peas
  • Tank-mix order:  Valtera, BlackHawk or GoldWing (if used), glyphosate
  • Notes:  Seeding after application requires the use of minimum to zero till drills

Registered crops

  • Chickpeas
  • Field corn
  • Field peas
  • Lentils (fall application prior to large green and small red varieties)
  • Soybeans
  • Wheat

Weeds controlled

  • Chickweed
  • Dandelion (seedling)
  • Green foxtail (suppression)
  • Kochia
  • Lamb’s-quarters
  • Pigweeds
  • Volunteer canola – all biotypes (suppression)

Weed Control Challenge

Early season weeds like kochia, chickweed, pigweed, lamb’s-quarters, and seedling dandelion put serious pressure on your crop. They  compete with young  pulse, wheat and soybean plants for nutrients, moisture and sunlight- making it much harder to get off to a strong start.

Nufarm Solution

Valtera™ herbicide knocks out troublesome broadleaf weeds with long-term (up to 8 weeks) residual control in wheat, pulses, and soybeans. Using Valtera (in the fall, pre-seed or pre-emergent) with a glyphosate  and or BlackHawk burndown provides residual control, boosts yields, and provides flexibility to seed wheat if cropping plans change.

  • Re-cropping flexibility means crops can be seeded 12 months after application
  • Early season control eliminates early season broadleaf weed pressure in lentils, field peas, chickpeas, wheat and soybeans
  • Extended control with residual activity that provides longer lasting control of tough weeds (up to 8 weeks)
  • Resistance management tool helps controls glyphosate-resistant weeds

  • Apply in fall or spring (check label for specific crop registrations)
  • No hassle application that doesn’t include the handling and incorporation of bulky granular herbicide products
  • Extended early season control for extra in-crop herbicide flexibility that helps to improve the efficacy of in-crop herbicide applications by targeting fewer, smaller weeds
  • Yield potential is increased through early elimination of weed competition
  • Tank mixable with most burndown and pre-emergent herbicides (ie. glyphosate, GoldWing and BlackHawk)

Performance Tips

  1. Emerged weeds – use with  a burndown herbicide partner like glyphosate, BlackHawk and/or GoldWing
  2. Flushing weeds – residual activity for newly emerging weeds
  3. Emerged crop – Valtera alone can be used up to 3 days post seeding, but prior to emergence of registered crops other than wheat, corn and lentils
  4. Refer to label for rates and use patterns
  5. DO NOT incorporate after application or prior to seeding
  6. Pre-seed applications require the use of minimum disturbance seeding systems
  7. Non-ionic surfactant required if glyphosate is not being tank mixed
  8. Leave a small checkstrip in the field to show performance
